Quiet Halloween for me.  I am supposed to be writing, but look who has joined me for the day as I peruse my Tumblr.

Samhain is coming, its the same day as Halloween for those who don’t know the Wiccan holidays.  But I am not looking forward to it this year.  Most years, my friend Kindra and I have celebrated together.  Sometimes we have a ritual after her daughter goes to bed (though last year we finally felt she was old enough to actively participate), or take Toria trick-or-treating, or just have a nice dinner—something.  I don’t think there has been a Samhain we did not celebrate together for almost a decade.  But this summer she moved to Oklahoma, far away, and there will be no Samhain celebration.  More than likely I will spend the evening with my mother and hand out candy, neither very witchy or fun options.

But that’s mostly because I really miss my friend and her daughter.  They are family and this holiday, for the three of us, is important.  Hopefully, Toria will at least get many candy treats that happen to be gluten free (because she can’t eat the rest).  Hopefully the evening will be better than I am forecasting.

Happy Samhain.  Happy Halloween.  Don’t forget to say a prayer for anyone who has died this past year.  This is supposed to be the day they hear you best.  Then party on.
